The meeting provided an opportunity for CE Convalt Energy, a New York-based company already active in Africa, led by its CEO Mr. Harris Achuthan Han and their financial manager John Phelan, to present an ambitious investment project. This project, valued at $200 million in the upcoming years, initially aims at an immediate investment of $10 million. It seeks to generate energy production of several tens of megawatts and modernize N’Djamena airport, totaling an investment of over $200 million in the coming years, enabling a total production of 120 megawatts. JUNE 19, 2023 Address by Ambassador Kitoko Gata: Committing to Juneteenth and Honoring the Contributions of African Americans Let me begin by expressing my sincere gratitude and congratulations to the organizers of today's Juneteenth celebration, which I have heard is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, commemorations of the end of slavery in the United States, also known as Freedom and Emancipation Day. My name is Kitoko Gata and I am Chad's ambassador-designate to the United States. I arrived only a few days ago, it's been almost a month now. One of my main missions here will be to strengthen the existing relationship between our two countries, as we are long-standing partners. I discovered Juneteenth a year ago during one of my previous trips to the United States, before being appointed ambassador. I am delighted to celebrate this significant occasion with all of you today. I have noticed that the understanding and enthusiasm surrounding Juneteenth is increasing at a remarkable rate. Cities and states across the United States and beyond realize the wonderful opportunity we have to come together to appreciate, reconcile, and commemorate. Juneteenth allows people in the United States to recognize the spirit of African Americans and honor their invaluable contributions that have enriched American society. I understand the importance and strength of this event for all of America, and I can feel everywhere the understanding and enthusiasm generated by Juneteenth, which is growing at a phenomenal rate. Juneteenth is no longer just a national holiday, but an international holiday, celebrated throughout the United States, in cities and states across the country, and it makes me realize what a wonderful opportunity it is for everyone present tonight to come together to appreciate, reconcile and commemorate this important event. This event, held in Frederick, Maryland, was made even more remarkable by the presence of Chad's ambassador, Kitoko, who brought a special dimension to this educational and intercultural celebration. Ambassador Kitoko played a vital role as a prominent personality and representative of his country, bringing deep diplomatic significance to this event. As a former ambassador of the UNESCO Centre for Peace for many years, he understands the importance of education and intercultural exchange for the development of tomorrow's young leaders. The UNESCO-sponsored Summer Camp was made possible thanks to the unwavering devotion of the organizers, especially Mr Guy Djoken and Whitaker Common at Hood College. Their commitment over the past 15 years has created a unique educational platform, allowing young students to share their knowledge and learn the decision-making mechanisms, as well as to become familiar with the cutting-edge technologies of our modern world. The presence of young students from high schools around the world gave this meeting an authentic and enriching character. In particular, the participation of Chadian students was welcomed and applauded by all participants. UNESCO offered the students of Chad the precious opportunity to live this international educational adventure, and this did not fail to mark the importance of education for Chadian youth, as well as for the leadership of their nation, led by Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.
