Towards a Flourishing Future: The Ambassador of Chad, a Key Player in Supporting African Agriculture

SEM KITOKO GATA, Ambassador of Chad, took part in a significant initiative: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce for International Affairs in Africa, specifically at the U.S.-Africa Business Center.

The central theme of this engagement: creating favorable ecosystems to support agricultural development for small-scale farmers in Africa.

The current context holds promise for agriculture and food production in Africa. However, recent challenges such as global conflicts and climate pressures threaten food self-sufficiency, a critical element for several African nations.

The notable contribution of the American private sector is marked by its substantial interest in the prosperity of African agriculture. This sector holds proven expertise in products, solutions, and policies conducive to the overall success of the agricultural ecosystem. The aim of this document is to propose policy recommendations to the U.S. and African governments, aiming to create more opportunities for investment and partnerships with the private sector and multinational organizations.

The themes addressed in this document include:

Theme 1: Financing Sustainable Agriculture

Theme 2: Access to Proper Inputs, Fuel, and Fertilizers

Theme 3: Access to Mechanized Solutions, including Training, Parts, and After-Sales Service

Theme 4: Access to Enabling Technologies and Technology Infrastructure, including the incorporation of SMEs and mid-cap companies to bridge gaps

Theme 5: Access to Off-takers, Trade Infrastructure, Supply Chains, and Commodity Markets

Each panel, consisting of experts and ambassadors, contributed to a better understanding of the issues surrounding the creation of favorable ecosystems to support agricultural development for small-scale farmers in Africa.
